How to Care for Your Plate - Please use a dry cloth only to clean your plate. Using water and cleaning products will remove the prints. Crazing, fine cracks on the surface, is to be expected. It is a normal part of the process and does not affect the overall integrity of your plate. To prolong the life of your plate, we recommend displaying it away from direct sunlight/light or storing it in a cool area of your home.
“Thank you for the beautiful poppy plate and thank you for the opportunity to give back to another family who is grieving the loss of their baby. We will cherish this beautiful plate as it displays a precious memory of our baby Cash. God Bless.” - Leigha Harp
“I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all that you do. I lost my son in October and through you, your organization, and the kind people that donate to your cause, I received comfort in the form of a memorial plate. God bless all of you, from the bottom of my heart.” - Courtney Case
“Your organization was a great comfort to us when we lost our baby girl at 18 weeks in May 2020. We hope other families know that they are not alone. Thank you for all that you do.” - Theresa Coughlin Martin
“The plate we got when we lost Ruth back in March makes me smile every time I look at it. We have it displayed over our kitchen sink in the heart of our home. Thank you all so much for what you do! I hope our monthly donation will bring the same feeling to many more families.” - Maddi Penny
“May each of these families feel the comfort and peace of the Lord as they grieve. I cherish my plate and I know they will too.” - Dora Bailey
When we first started Mamie’s in 2010, we outsourced our plates to a local pottery store. We now have two kilns and all plates are produced in house. Our order packets are stocked in more than 80 partner hospitals. When a family experiences a loss, hospital staff will help the parents fill out a plate order form and obtain prints. Order forms are also available on our website for parents who do not deliver at one of our partner hospitals. Parents customize their plates, picking colors and design. Once we receive the order, our artists hand paint each plate as to the family’s wishes. Plates are customized with the baby’s name, birthdate and prints. If prints are not available, we have several alternative design options. The plates then go into one of our two kilns at the Mamie’s office. Prints are transferred to the plates and packaged for delivery by our volunteers during our monthly volunteer night. We are able to gift one plate per loss and all plates are shipped directly to our families. You can expect to receive your plate 8-10 weeks after we receive your order.
The average time to process a plate is 8-10 weeks!
1. Packets from hospitals and online orders are printed off and entered into our system by our office manager.
2. A special folder is created for each child and placed in a file for the artists.
3. Our art director takes a picture of each order form and sends them to one of our artists.
4. The artists paint the plate borders, add the baby’s information, glaze and fire the plates.
5. On the last Tuesday of each month volunteers come in the afternoon to transfer the footprints onto the plates.
6. On the same Tuesday, another group of volunteers come in the evening to box and package the plates for shipping.
7. Once packaged, the plates are picked up by our shipper and mailed USPS to the family.
