Wow, we can’t believe it’s here once again. As we gear up for our annual Mamie’s Poppy Plates fundraising event this May, we have lots of information to get out to everyone.

First – online registration and team fundraising will open February 1st. Everyone must register if you plan to attend and we recommend registering early to guarantee a shirt (design to be released soon).

As you have probably heard by now, there are many changes in the works for this year’s event, including a new name and new time. What was Race to Remember is now being called “Mamie’s Poppy Party – A Remembrance Celebration.”The event will be held May 11th at War Memorial Stadium 6pm-9pm. We had lots of constructive feedback after last year and are making a few adjustments that we feel will make the celebration even better this year.

Probably the biggest change is there WILL NOT be a 5K this year. In its place, a family-style parade! We are asking everyone to come out at 6:00 pm with their bikes, scooters, strollers, etc. and join us as we walk in memory of all of our children. You can bring your “wheels” already decorated or stop by one of our UAMS Love Lives decorating stations outside of War Memorial before the walk. You can be as creative as you like! After the walk, everyone will file into War Memorial for the afterparty which will include food, drinks, and live entertainment! We’re so excited about our new stage! We will also have even more activities for the kids this year in our Fellowship Bible Church Kids Zone. Make sure and stick around until 9 PM as we have an extra special and memorable way to recognize our babies this year, graciously sponsored by Ruebel Funeral Home.

Team Fundraising is a meaningful way to get involved and honor your child. Beginning on February 1st, you can form a team and fundraise in your baby’s honor. Share your team page with family and friends on social media to raise money. We have also had many teams hold fundraisers in their communities – everything from lemonade stands and car washes to selling ornaments.

Please keep us updated on fundraising activities as we would love to share! Your supporters can then join you at the Poppy Party to walk in honor of your child. Some teams opt to have matching shirts made for the event. Many team fundraisers use donations to adopt a hospital afterward. Top Team fundraisers will receive special recognition on race day as well as a designated “team space” on the field. Our top fundraisers last year were Team Olivia Faith and Team Hattie Grace.

The ‘This Is My Story’ tent will also be back again this year. We loved having you share your children with us last year. Look for our 2018 videos as we begin posting them in February. If you would like to share your story, make sure and stop by our This Is My Story Tent on race day for a short video interview.

We’re looking forward to an incredible celebration! Make sure and like our Facebook Event Page to stay up to date on important announcements. We hope to see you on May 11th!
